It has taken my a lifetime to reach this point in my artistry. Cultivating a personal style is an an immense power. Assembling bits and pieces of comprehensive information from multiple sources and crafting your own conclusions can lead to something amazing.
So what's my personal style when I design? My jlikeart style? It starts with looking into the recent past and the cultural innovators of the 20th Century. Archetechs like Wright and Mies van der Rohe. De Stijl painters like Mondrian and van Doesburg. Bauhaus artists like Klee and Kandinsky. New York city in the 1980's and the graffiti of Haring and Basquiat. These icons and so many more of the last 120 years challenged academia with their use of bold colors, graphic lines, neoplastic forms and geometric connections. When I begin a piece, I reflect on these artists and their realms of influence for inspiration. I prefer my lines to be loose yet structured. My color choices may sometimes seem spontaneous, but often have a deliberate narrative. I like to think of my works as illustrative snapshots taken from isolated viewpoints. Filed under the heading "jlikeart was here".
"As an artist, I make original designs and paintings. Small art for small spaces, larger pieces for other places. It is my mission to enrich ones perception by enhancing ones environment." --JOEY LIKE, ARTIST
